Inline Formatting via Markdown – Drag’n Drop from Clipboard to Concept Map
Dear Coreon Users!
we want to share with you the news about two exciting product enhancements:Inline Formatting and enhanced Drag’n Drop capabilities.
Enjoy!

Inline Formatting
To increase the textual capabilities to describe concepts and terms, multi-line text
properties (such as Definition, Notes, Examples etc.) can now be marked up with
formatting, concretely:
- bold, italics, underline, software code
- sub- and super-script
- bulleted and numbered lists
- hyperlinks
For the efficiency of maintainers, Coreon uses a variant of the so-called markdown syntax. Instead of remembering complex xml or html elements, for instance, just by typing a double asterisk (**), the font changes to bold.
Even for terms we support sub- and superscript, thus to properly render formula names (H2O molecule) as well as trademark signs.
Note for developers using the Coreon API: inline formatting has no impact on the API itself. The next update of the API specification will include details on the supported syntax.

Drag’n Drop from Clipboard to Concept Map
Pinning a concept to the clipboard is not only a good method to easily jump to a
concept again and again. Now, if the Map is in “Edit” mode, you can drag’n drop a
concept from the clipboard onto a node in the Concept Map. This is a very efficient way to change the structure of maps or to create aliases.
What will happen to the dragged concept? Three options to choose from will be presented:
- Move the concept / change the parent: all the existing parent relations are removed, one new one is created.
- Hook it under another parent: all existing relations are kept and a further one is created (Coreon supports multi-parent relationships)
- Create an alias: create a placeholder like link to the concept
Using keyboard shortcuts while dragging allows you to circumvent the dialog box and directly apply one of the options. Thus the desired change can be applied faster.
Miscellaneous Improvements
With this release we’ve also rolled out some smaller nice enhancements:
- Term List: the rating of a term no longer changes the formatting of the whole line, but only of the term itself.
- Repository homepage: The Recent Changes list no longer treats aliases as concepts but explicitly informs whether edits happened to a concept or to an alias.
